Year Two
04.MAR.2002
Two years have passed in a blur since I gave up television. During that time I built a wooden kayak, started my own chapter of the Green Party, and traveled to Turkey. I also developed a talent for photography, built a photo gallery web site, learned to play guitar, and helped convert a barn into a greenhouse insulated with straw bales. I have a lot more time to do these things because I am saving at least 365 hours a year (nine 40-hour weeks) by not watching television for an hour or more a day. Continue reading "Year Two"
TV Turnoff Essay

Such information would be difficult to get from China. Continue reading "Farm Subsidies/Corporate Welfare"
Letter to the Cecil Whig - Chain Restaurants
05.OCT.2001
I must be one of the "out of step" people that Terry Peddicord mentioned in his latest commentary regarding the Applebee's liquor license delay. I have no desire to see Applebee's, Red Lobster, T.G.I. Friday's, Ruby Tuesday, or any other such restaurant move its way into Cecil County. I much prefer The Wellwood, Market Street Café, Woody's, The Howard House, Billie's Chuckwagon, The Rendezvous or Pier One, some of the many locally owned restaurants that both reflect and contribute to our county's character.
