"Reclaim The Streets" Street Party, Washington D.C.

23.JUN.2001

I was in DC dropping off some equipment for the Independent Media Center and was invited to this event. A group gathered at Dupont Circle and walked (in the street) to a previously undisclosed location in Adams Morgan, where they shut down an entire block for a couple of hours. People young and old played four-square, jump rope and frisbee, grilled soy-dogs, made chalk drawings, and danced while the police re-routed traffic. The police eventually decided to end the party and forced the revelers to disperse.
